About Us

My great great grandfather, John Thomson Sr. immigrated from Scotland to Fergus in 1839.  He founded the business in 1872, just five years after Canada itself was founded.  His son John Thomson Jr. carried on the business through the later 1800's and early 1900's.  Will Thomson continued the legacy until the mid 1900's.  Mary Thomson took the reins and was very successful right up until 1990.  We are the oldest fifth generation furniture store in Canada for a reason!  Why - Focused on furnishing homes with the finest Canadian quality furniture at affordable everyday pricing, along with exceptional service.

It's quite rare a small business makes to the fifth generation, only 3% make it to the fourth generation in all categories of business.  Research shows that only 30 percent of all family firms successfully complete the succession from the first generation to the second, only 12 percent of family businesses survive to the third generation, and only 3 percent continue into the fourth generation and beyond.

Building strong customer relationships is one of the core values in lasting 5 generations.  I am fortunate to have been related too and worked closely with Mary Thomson, she was someone with true integrity and conviction in all aspects of her life.  One thing she always conveyed was how important it is to be a person of your word.  There must always be a high level of trust in doing business with your clients.  I think we have carried this core value forward throughout the business. As it has been passed down; be a man or woman of your word, deliver more than you promise and you will always be successful in business.

Our vision to fulfill customer satisfaction has always been with a focus on competitively selling "Made in Canada" quality furniture.  We really work at establishing trust and loyalty through a firm, everyday low price along with manufacturer promotions.  We offer free delivery in our vast delivery area, set-up and removal of any old items being replaced by the purchase. We give special attention to deliveries, to ensure they arrive at the customer’s home in perfect condition and that the customer is completely satisfied.

Service after the sale is another key ingredient to total customer satisfaction. If a problem arises after the sale, even beyond manufacturers’ warranties, it is dealt with as quickly as possible and in most cases at no extra charge to the customer.

Your Total Satisfaction is our goal and our biggest asset!
